The route is neither too long nor too hard. It will take you to the set of a dozen Granges located at 1400-1500 meters above the village of Vielle-Aure. Two different eras mark the history of the Grascouéou barns, the 19th and 20th centuries.
This pretty walk, which starts one or two hairpin bends before the village of Soulan, will take you along a gentle pastoral track to the granges de Grascouéou.
This short walk (1 h ascent from Soulan) can be done all year round, but in fine weather to see all the peaks clear.
Snowshoes are strongly recommended in case of heavy snowfall.
Park your car in the parking lot slightly below on the last bend just before arriving in the village of Soulan, walk back down a few hundred meters on the road and you’ll find on the left the start of the track that takes you to the barns.
.
From the barns, you’ll have a superb, unobstructed view of Saint-Lary Soulan, all the little villages in the vicinity, the Pla d’Adet and its ski slopes and all the surrounding peaks.
By making the effort to push a little higher to the ridge above the last barn, the view will be even more beautiful and you’ll see on the other side, the valley and the village of Aulon overlooked by the Arbizon, the emblematic peak of the Aure valley.
A final view for the pleasure of the eyes on the way back down by the same route.
Please bring water and adequate protection if you do this walk in summer as this very sunny slope quickly gets very hot.
