Family snowshoeing

on the crests of Azet

A panoramic view of the Aure and Louron valleys awaits you!

The crêtes d’Azet are accessible from the Col d’Azet at 1585 m altitude. An experience for the whole family or just the two of you

Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the Col d’Azet links the Aure and Louron valleys, with views of all 3 resorts: Saint-Lary, Val Louron and Peyragudes.

by Jean Michel Loric

Starting point: Col d'Azet 1585m.

From Saint-Lary follow the direction Sailhan Azet. At the village of Azet continue towards the Col d’Azet.

For this snowshoe walk on the ridges of Azet although very accessible, we have chosen to be accompanied by a guide who will take us off the beaten track to make the most of this hike in complete safety.

After an efficient distribution of people in the vehicles, to limit the number and the loading of equipment, we set off in convoy behind our guide’s car towards the Col d’Azet.
The journey up to the pass unfolded to the rhythm of “Ho”, “Ha” or “Holala how beautiful!”.
As we climbed, the sun, snow and sky were increasingly pure and dazzling.

For the whole family Ideal for an introduction

The Louron valley, the Col de Peyragudes and Peyragudes resort.

As we take the track that slopes gently up to the Azet ridges, in the distance we spot a relay antenna towards which we’re heading. It’s a warm-up that allows us to tame our equipment!

We continue our progress, leaving the track to reach the ridgeline with a breathtaking view of the Louron valley, the Col de Peyragudes and the resort of Peyragudes. A little further along the ridge we discover the panorama over the Vallée d’Aure, the summit of Arbizon and the Saint Lary ski area.

We’re ecstatic at the beauty of the scenery and it’s a real pleasure for the whole family. By the time we retraced our steps, the sun had begun to disappear behind the peaks.
At the bottom, St. Lary and the valley were long since in shadow.

And finally...

On the way home

We’ll long remember this superb afternoon in blue and white, which we finished in style over a raclette with friends.

If you have time on your return from your hike don’t hesitate to visit the village of Azet or Sailhan.
