There are many marmots to be seen.
Here are two possible routes to this mountain lake.
The first is a little more sporty and the second is suitable for families with children.
after Jean-Michel LORIC
On leaving Saint-Lary-Soulan, turn right onto the D 25 towards Azet. Continue in the direction of Val Louron.
At the Col d’Azet, take a small road on the right at the bend.Park a little further on at the small parking lot. Take the track that runs due south and will pass under le téléski des Bruyères. Continue on this track and pass under the Myrtilles chairlift until you reach a hairpin.
Take a right and reach the finish of the Myrtilles chairlift. From here, climb left to two ski lifts, following markings no. 12.
Very quickly fork slightly to the right on a secondary trail and reach an unnamed pass passing under the ski lifts.
The well-traced path switches to the other side and begins a 100 m descent into the Sarrouyes valley to the Cabane Tuc d’Ardounes on the right.
The still well-traced path begins an ascent to Lac de Sarrouyes. The end of the climb is through meadows following the stream.
Here’s another itinerary to reach this lake with a very low gradient as its departure will take place by chairlift, which will amuse your children and save you a long, tedious climb.
So head for the Col d’Azet, but drop back down a little on the other side to the Val-Louron resort where you’ll park your vehicle.
Go to the tésiège des myrtilles, easy to spot as it’s the only one in operation in summer, pay your ticket and off you go for the adventure.
Marked route no. 12.
Time and elevation gain indicated are from the arrival at the top of the chairlift.
This is an ideal spot for a family picnic and a restorative siesta before heading home.
Find out about the opening times of the les myrtilles chairlift at 05 62 99 95 35 (Office de Tourisme Loudenvielle). Generally, the last chairlift leaves the summit at 3:45 pm. If it’s closed, you can reach the bottom of the resort on foot via the pistes. You’ll need to allow an extra 1h walk.
For good walkers and hikers experienced
On arrival at Lac de Sarrouyes, less than an hour and a half’s walk and a further 350m of ascent give access to the lacs de Miares at an altitude of 2528 metres. On a suspended plateau, these lakes are surrounded by the peaks of Parraouis, Estos (2803m), and Sarrouyes (2676m), which accomplished mountaineers can attempt to climb.
