The Sobrarbe region welcomes youThe Aragnouet-Bielsa tunnel 21 km from Saint-Lary links France to Spain. Haut-Aragon, and more specifically the Sobrarbe region. Toll-free, the tunnel is nonetheless forbidden to bicycles and vehicles transporting hazardous materials exceeding 4.3 meters in height.
The Spanish side located in the Sobrarbe region has been declared a Geopark, and has been part of the European Geopark Network under the auspices of UNESCO since 2006.
In addition to its unspoilt nature, the Sobrarbe boasts a magnificent, rich and preserved architectural heritage. Villages, churches or medieval castles will fill you with wonder: Ainsa, Alquezar, Rodellar, Château de Loarre… .
“Geopark” is a territory containing a singular geological heritage and possessing a sustainable local development strategy. Its fundamental aim is to guarantee the conservation of natural and cultural heritage and promote development based on appropriate management of the geological environment through the Geo-Routes network.
The formation of numerous canyons stems among other things from this exceptional geological heritage. They are one of the region’s many attractions. The most beautiful in Europe can be found in the Mont Perdu (1h30 from St Lary) or the Sierra de Guara (2h30 drive from Saint Lary).
